Today I started the production of my main task product. However to ensure I followed all codes and conventions and it appealed to my target audience I started on my research. I decided to produce a magazine of the classic genre, however as there are already established classical music magazines out there I decided upon a younger more niche target audience of 20-35. I decided this as there is a gap in the market for younger readers who are interested din classical music. After beginning research this fitted in perfectly as many young composers are becoming more and more popular therefore I can use them as my inspiration. I concluded on using BBCmusic and ClassicFM for my research. I began my research by getting familiar with classic music as it is something I am not particular interested in myself.
5/11/08
Today I continued researching the Genre of classical music. I then followed on with collecting information about the variety of prices and frequency of publication. This is going to help me on making final decisions about my magazine I will later produce.
6/11/08
I continued my research on Issue sizes of my chosen research magazines. I began creating my PowerPoint which will store all my research for my production.
7/11/08
As a class we discussed codes and conventions of a double page spread, as this was not necessary for my preliminary task I was unfamiliar with them.
The codes and conventions of a double page spread are as follows:
● Main Image (this usually take up at least half or more of the double page)
● Drop capitals are used at the beginning of the article
● Small images are used at the bottom of the page to illustrate the article
● No more then 3 colours are used
eg. Blue, Black, White
Yellow, Black, White (white and black are an ongoing theme)
● Drop quotes (normally in a bigger/different colourd font and are often placed over images or in the middle of text)
● Stand First (the introduction paragraph to the article)
● Set out in columns (usually 2-4)
● By-line (acknowledges writer and photographer)
● Title (always different font/colour/size to article text)
● No adverts are used on main articles
● Page numbers and magazine
10/11/08
I completed all my research into existing magazines. To help me with hard to find topics on the internet I bought a copy of ClassicFM and BBCmusic. This helped my finish my research as I completed information such as regular content and feature articles.
11/11/08
Today I started to produce a questionnaire to ensure I appeal to my target audience which I plan to hand out to 30 people in my target population range.
12/11/08
I continued with the completion of the questionnaires and have printed off 30 copies to hand out to my target audience. However to ensure they are suitable candidates I have made a list questions I will ask them before asking them to fill them in. this will ensure that all the information I collect will be relevant and useful to my audience research.
Are you between the ages of 20-35?
Do you listen to classical music at least once a fortnight?
Would you be interested in purchasing a new classical music magazine?
These are the questions i asked my participants.
13/11/08
I handed out my questionnaire to my target audience and got them all filled in ready to analyse the results in the next lesson.

This is the questionaire i handed out to my recipentents.
14/11/08
I started collecting my questionnaire results and tallied them up so I could easily input them into Microsoft Excel. As I had some time left of the lesson I began inputting information and creating graphs for my target audience research results.
17/11/08
I continued producing my graphs to put into my research. This was time consuming as I did them for every question accept two. However for these I wrote a summary off results as it was not suitable to present in a graph format.
18/11/08
I used a variety of multi-mediums throughout my production; in my research section I recorded several answers. By doing this it gave me proof of what my target audience wanted in their magazine that I was producing. It also gave me the opportunity to look back on it for key details and important information that might be relevant.
19/11/08
I continued recording my target audiences’ answers and adding them to my PowerPoint.
20/11/08
I started analyzing my audience research and started to think of ideas that I could use in my magazine cross referencing it with both my existing product and audience research.
21/11/08
In today’s lesson I started my production plan. This consisted of all contents including feature and regular, it also included price, frequency of publication, positioning statement and issue size.
24/11/08
I finished off my production plan as I spent time over the weekend doing it there wasn’t much left. I then started on ideas for pictures. As all images had to be original I had to try and be creative, luckily for me I was going to an event which I had booked to help me with my magazine production so I could get into the music and the people who listen to it. I decided this would be a wonderful opportunity to take pictures for throughout my magazine. As I didn’t know how good of quality the pictures would be and what I could take pictures of if any I had a back up plan. So I wasn’t wasting time I arranged use of a camera and started taking pictures of instruments and other objects/situations that connoted classical music. Although I realize all pictures should be planned I see this as an opportunity not to be missed out on due to the lack of resources I have with classical music and the specification of the task I decided to take the risk and hope for the best.

25/11/08
I started sketching plans of both my contents page and front cover however these were mimilistic due to the fact of lack of information about pictures. However not wanting to waste time I started on writing up text to import into quark express when necessary.
26/11/08
Not wanting to waste anymore time I started thinking about my double page spread article. As I have never done this before I knew I would have to do lots of planning. From looking at my audience research I decided upon doing a tribute page to Luciano Pavarotti. This was a hard decision as I knew nothing about him however my audience research outweighed my lack of knowledge therefore I began researching.
27/11/08
I continued with my research as I wanted to get a big picture of Pavarotti and his life.
28/11/08
Although I knew I was going to write the article as a tribute to Pavarotti I was not entirely sure what to write about however I decided to do an account of his life and how he made it to fame and his last performances. My Event is Saturday evening so I am putting the double page spread aside until I have taken all pictures. As I am behind my schedule I have set myself homework to complete sketches at home after I have got my images, and if my images are of not a high standard to ensure I take new images by Monday.
